If your light bars show the left side of the screen on the right bar, or run colours upside down, nothing is broken. The lights simply never told the app how you arranged them — because they cannot.
A pair of Govee light bars is one device on the network, not two. It reports how many colour segments it has — typically 20, being two bars of ten — and accepts a frame with a colour for each one, in order. What it never reports is where those segments are. Which bar holds segments 1 to 10 depends on how the cable is run, and whether segment 1 is at the top or the bottom depends on which way up you stood them.
No app can detect this, and none of them are guessing well. GLanSync asks you once and then previews it on the actual lights so you can confirm rather than trust.

Kit contents vary, and a device that shipped in a different configuration can expect a different number of segments. If the preview only lights part of the bars, or wraps around before the end, you can override the segment count per device in the same Device Output panel. Anything from 1 to 255 is accepted — set it to the number your kit actually has and preview again.
If you find a count that differs from the one listed on the supported devices page, that is genuinely useful information; send the model number and the correct count to [email protected] and the table gets fixed. Several counts have already been corrected this way.
A single strip behind a monitor or TV is one continuous run, so it uses the global Installation Direction setting rather than a per-device layout. The per-device layout picker exists for hardware where segments sit in separate physical objects: bar pairs, TV backlight loops and panel arrays.
