Govee Glide panels: mapping each panel to the screen

Panels are the one case where the app genuinely cannot guess. A strip is a line and a TV loop is a rectangle, but a hexagon wall is whatever shape you decided to build on your wall.

What the lights know, and what they don't

A panel kit appears on the network as one device with a segment count — one segment per panel. It accepts a colour for each, in chain order. It cannot report the shape you assembled, and it cannot report which physical panel is first in the chain. Two people with the same kit can have completely different walls.

So instead of guessing, GLanSync lets you place each panel on a grid that represents your screen, and flashes the real panel so you know which one you are placing.

Models this applies to

Kit sizes vary and the listed counts are starting points, not guarantees. A ten-piece hexagon set expects roughly double the segments of a five-piece one. Set the count to match what you actually own before placing anything.

Setting it up

  1. Open Settings → Device Output and select the panel kit.
  2. Set the layout to Panel array.
  3. Set the segment count first. If it does not match the number of panels you have, everything you place afterwards will be wrong. Count the panels on the wall and use that number.
  4. Use identify on the first chip. One panel on your wall flashes — that is the one this chip controls.
  5. Drag the chip to where that panel physically sits, relative to your screen.
  6. Repeat for each panel. Identify, look, place.
  7. Run the preview to confirm the whole arrangement moves the way the screen does.

Placing them well

The grid represents your screen, not your wall in absolute terms. What matters is relative position: a panel to the left of your monitor should sit on the left of the grid, one above it near the top. Panels clustered on one side should stay clustered.

Exact spacing matters much less than order and rough position. Screen sync samples a region of the picture for each panel, so a panel placed roughly right will pick up roughly the right colours. Getting two panels swapped is far more noticeable than getting one slightly off-centre.

Panels get their own addressing

Panel arrays are the one device class where the app sends a different frame format — discrete addressing, one colour unit per panel, rather than the continuous run a strip expects. That is set for you when you choose the panel layout. It is also why picking “panel array” matters even if the shape looks like it could pass for a strip.

When it does not look right

If you get a kit working and the segment count differs from the supported devices table, that is worth sending to [email protected] along with the model number — panel counts are the hardest numbers to pin down without owning every kit size.
