GLanSync

Privacy

Applies to the GLanSync desktop app (macOS and Windows) and to this website.

GLanSync is a local-first desktop utility for compatible Govee LAN devices. It controls your lights directly over your local network. There is no account, no cloud sync, and no telemetry.

What the app does by default

Remote configuration check

At launch and roughly every 6 hours, the app fetches a small configuration file over HTTPS from glansync.com (with a public GitHub URL as fallback). That file carries licensing parameters — whether paid licensing is enabled, store identifiers, the purchase page URL — and the latest available app version.

The request is a plain GET: no identifiers, no cookies, no query parameters, no telemetry. The server sees only the standard metadata any web request carries. If the check fails or the file is missing, the app keeps its last cached copy, or falls back to built-in defaults.

License activation

If you buy a license, activation and periodic validation go to Lemon Squeezy, our merchant of record, and only when a license key is in use. The request carries your license key and a machine name so the activation limit can be enforced. Purchases, receipts, VAT and license-key delivery are handled by Lemon Squeezy under their privacy policy. The app works fully offline afterwards.

Local network data

The app sends and receives local UDP packets for discovery, status checks and light commands, and may inspect local network interface information to identify likely Govee LAN devices. Device identifiers, local IP addresses, SKUs, group names and group membership are stored locally so your setup is restored on the next launch. None of it leaves your computer.

Screen capture

Screen Sync samples pixels from the screen or window you select in order to calculate LED colors. Those pixels are processed locally inside the app; nothing in the app uploads screen content. macOS requires Screen Recording permission before capture works; Windows requires no screen-capture permission.

Microphone and system audio

Microphone and system-audio modes analyze audio locally to calculate lighting frames, using frequency and volume data only. Nothing in the app uploads audio. Microphone mode requires the operating system's microphone permission. On Windows, system audio uses native loopback capture, analyzed locally like every other audio source.

This website

This site sets no cookies and runs no analytics or tracking scripts. It is served through Cloudflare, which processes standard request metadata (such as IP address and user agent) to deliver the page and protect the origin. Downloads are hosted on GitHub and are subject to GitHub's own policies once you follow a download link.

If telemetry is ever added

Any future telemetry or crash reporting must be opt-in, documented before release, and separable from normal local LAN control.
